West River SailingClub
Application for Membership
WRSC welcomes new members and offers membership to anyone who shares our interest in sailing and is willing to contribute to time and effort that enables our programs and facilities to thrive.
In 1930, a group of sailors living on the West River formed the Our Own Damned Yacht Club and scheduled the 1st Annual Regatta, a tradition that marked its 83rd anniversary in 2017. In 1933, the name was changed to the West River Sailing Club. The enduring focus of this club is sailing at all levels: dinghy and one design racing, keel boat racing, and long range cruising. WRSC also recognizes the importance of teaching sailing to children and adults. If you find this sailing environment attractive, you are invited to join today.
You do not have to own a boat or have prior sailing experience. WRSC has a program to assist you to develop your sailing skills. It also has a small fleet of day sailing boats that you can use on a shared basis.
In addition to applying for membership, you can also apply for the WRSC Learn-to-Sail Program. Click LTS for a full description of the program.
And, you can also apply to park your boat at WRSC in Galesville, MD. Parking is limited to one design sailboats that meet our criteria.
The first step is to apply for Provisional Membership. Provisional membership is temporary, lasting until the 30th of September of each year or 6 months, whichever occurs first, when you are required to request one of our full membership categories. Full membership can be one of four categories: Regular, Corinthian, Associate, or Junior. Click WRSC Member Categories for a full description of the membership categories.
With the approval of the WRSC Board of Directors you will be granted full membership and will be billed at the normal cycle for the following year. We will credit the Provisional dues paid and Learn to Sail tuition toward your following year’s dues and/or initiation fee as appropriate. As a provisional member you will have full access to the club facilities, and subject to availability may store a one-design boat on club property. Provisional members are not allowed to vote on issues or board elections.
