Laser Racing at WRSC

The Laser is a single-handed, strict one-design and Olympic class that is sailed enthusiastically all over the world by young and old, novice and expert alike. The Laser offers the unique combination of exciting sailing, simple rig, portability, and highly competitive fleets. It offers three configurations to accommodate varying conditions, sailor weight and sailor ability.  Each rig only requires a different lower mast section and sail.  A great boat you can learn in and never outgrow.

Friday Evening Racing Laser races are held each Friday evening May 2nd through August 29th, 2014.  We try to have approximately 3 to 6 short races each Friday with an informal cookout (burgers, crab cakes, etc. for sale) after racing. Order your dinner before the races and enjoy talking with other sailors afterwards.  The racing starts at 6:00 pm and generally ends about 7:15 pm.

David Irey Memorial Regatta, Saturday and Sunday May 31th and June 1, 2014.  Skippers meeting at 9:30 am, and first warning signal at 11:00 am.

Junior Regatta, Monday June 30th, 2014.  A great day of competition for junior sailors in Lasers (both full and radial rigs), Opti’s, and 420’s.  Nancy Irey is Regatta Chair.

Annual Regatta, Labor Day Weekend, Saturday and Sunday, August 30-31, 2014.  Sailed with many other classes on several different race courses.  Informal dinner after racing on Saturday evening.

Numerous other regattas are scheduled at other yacht clubs on the Chesapeake Bay, around the country, and worldwide.
